GOULDIAN FINCH
ERYTHRURA GOULDIAE
GOULDIAN NAMING CHART
The following list of suggested names produced by GPA101Genetics, for the
Gouldian Finch and its mutations, has been arrived at after considerable
discussion amongst breeders and knowledgable genetics people.
It is an attempt to name each mutation for its genotype and not its phenotype.
This has been found to be the most successful method of naming in other avian
species, and is readily recognised throughout the avian world.
The current naming of mutations has become thoroughly
confusing, with the same mutation having many different names, and a single
name being used for several mutations, depending on which part of the world
you live in.
Most current names have no relation to the genetic make up
of the birds concerned.
This list of names has already been accepted in some
parts of the world, and it is anticipated it will become the recognised base
for naming Gouldian Finch Mutations, now and in the future.
We ask that you take the time to read through, and
consider from an international aspect, and not simply as personal
preference.
Any questions you might have can be sent to erythrura@skynet.be
and will be forwarded to the "Gouldian Preservation
Association 101911" group, for
discussion.
You will be advised of the outcome of any such queries.
