CLASSIFICATION
This bird is considered as a
separate species. No subspecies are known.

NATIVE HABITAT
They live on the island of Luzon in the
Philippines where they can be found on the edges of the forests and the bamboo
fields. There are also some rumours mentioning the islands of Panay and Negros.

Juvenile 6 months old
DESCRIPTION
There most principal characteristic in which they
differ from other parrot finches is their green coloured head. They are complete
green with exception of the red upper tail coverts. Size 13 cm.
The females are duller than the males.
Juveniles have a green back with bronze-coloured upper tail coverts and a dirty
yellow abdomen.

AVICULTURAL NOTES
The first Manilas arrived on the European
continent as late as 1966.
Recently some limited breeding results have occurred.
MUTATIONS
No mutations are known.
