PARROT
FINCHES
-HYBRIDS-
![]()
These birds do not belong to this
site.
However, I would like to adress this practice.
It is certainly not the intention to encourage the breeding of hybrids, but to
warn the bird-lover about the negative aspects. These birds are useless to breed
in future generations, and you may not bring them into a show.
It is well known that many species of parrot finches can be crossed together and
the off-spring can be fertile.
Below are some pictures of such hybrids:

PEALES PARROT
FINCH x RED THROATED PARROT FINCH

In
the first picture we see one of the four juveniles with father Peale P.F.
In the second photo we have another juvenile with mother Red Throated P.F.

Both pictures above show us the same juveniles but now in full color.
You can see very well the blue under the chin (bib) which is a characteristic of
the Peale's Parrot Finch.

These two juveniles in the pictures are more difficult to recognize as hybrids.
They look more like their mother Red-Throated.
